Presentation: Robert Austin, Measuring and Managing Performance in Organizations, Dorset House, 1996

This is a presentation on Robert Austin's book Measurement and Management of Performance in Organizations (Dorset House, 1996). I consider this book required reading for both technical managers and engineers. I was so intrigued with his take on measurement dysfunction, particularly in regards to "pay for performance", that I ordered a copy of his CMU Ph.D. dissertation. Once you get the gist of why measurement dysfunction occurs and why it is inevitable, you will start seeing it everywhere. The presentation is available as a PDF file.
